AIR LINE PILOTS ASSOCIATION 55TH STREET & CICERO AVENUE CHICAGO, ILLINOIS 60638 PORTSMOUTH 7-1400 AFFILIATED WITH A.F.L-C.I.O February 14, 1968 Mr. Clyde Muirheid 8560 S.W. 118th Street Miami, Florida 33156 Mr. G.D. Goss 3045 Corson Street Aurora, Colorado 80010 Mr. H.W. Orlady 312 South Part Road LaGrange, Illinois Mr. M.A. Gitt 194 Kingspoint Road Great Neck, L.I., New York 11024 Mr. J.R. Richardson 3600 Toledo Street Coral Gables, Florida Gentlemen: I received a copy of Don Madole's letter of February 8, 1968, to Captain Michael A. Gitt. It is noted that the Executive Committee resolution provides that your committee shall coordinate your activities with the President of the Association to maintain financial control. Mr. Madole's letter indicates that he has been retained to represent Captain Gitt to seek an exemption from the age 60 rule. The Executive Committee has previously passed some resolutions pertaining to the retaining of outside counsel and I would appreciate it if your Committee would advise me whether Mr. Madole has been retained by the Committee in furtherance of their objectives. Mr. Madole in his letter suggests that Captain Gitt obtain three separate evaluations of various clinics. It has always been ALPA policy to require the pilot to stand the burden of his own medical examinations. Attempts by this Department in the past to get assistance from ALPA on these costs have been refused because of possible financial exposure.(We have approximately fifty medical cases pending at any one time.) Perhaps this point should be clarified with Mr. Madole and and Captain Gitt. Your assistance in this matter will be greatly appreciated and will help to prevent some possible misunderstandings in the future. Very truly yours, AIR LINE PILOTS ASSOCIATION, INT'L Allen E. Gramza, Director Legal Department AEG:pb Enel. "SCHEDULE WITH SAFETY"
