CAB Roundup

Air France, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Lufthansa Airlines and Sabena Airlines denied leave to intervene in the Al-italia Airlines Enforcement proceeding.
Allegheny Airlines granted new segment between Louisville and Pittsburgh on subsidy ineligible basis. Subsidy will be reduced by $229,458 annually after service has been instituted.
Approved sale of five DC-8 aircraft, together with spare engines and parts, to United Airlines by Pan American World Airways. Purchase price of each aircraft is $3,750,000.
Approved agreement between Modern Air Transport and Nordair under which Modern will operate Convair 990A aircraft to various points in Europe, North America and the Caribbean, including flights from Canada into the U.S. The agreement is effective during the period March 29-October 31.
Granted exemption to Provincetown-Boston Airlines, an air taxi operator, to utilize DC-3 aircraft scheduled service between Naples and Miami, Fla.
Denied petition for review filed by Flying Tiger in regard to Examiner's initial decision granting Aero Spacelines exemption authority to engage in world-wide transportation of outsize cargo in planeload charter service.
Examiner Milton H. Shapiro denied motion filed by Charles V. Byers and Donna B. Byers to reopen the record in the Allegheny-Lake Central merger case.
Granted exemption to Overseas National Airways to permit the leader of one DC-9-30 aircraft from Caribbean-Atlantic Airlines. The agreement will be effective for a period not to exceed eight months.
Dismissed complaint of American Airlines requesting suspension and investigation of Flying Tiger's proposed economy airfreight rates. 
Issued notice of proposed approval of control and interlocking relationships between Frank J. Brown and Wearing Apparel Forwarders, an applicant for domestic and international air freight forwarder authority.
Instituted investigation of Reeve Aleutian Airways proposal for revision of baggage claim rules. 
Approved agreement between National Air Carrier Assn. and DOD's Military Traffic Management Terminal Service.
The agreement covers charter cargo service within the continental U.S.

FAA Has....
Limited privileges of certain students and commercial pilots (lighter-than-air) to operating only hot it balloons without an airborne heater if they do not meet all the otherwise applicable aeronautical knowledge and experience requirements, and made changes in provisions affecting holders of flight instructor certificates with glider ratings and logging flight instruction received from commercial glider pilots. Effective date is May 10.
Expanded the scope of Part 61.85(b) to cover all applicants for private pilot certificates (airline rating) located on isolated islands and who can only complete the cross-country requirements by making long overwater flights. This will take effect April 11.
Proposed amendments that would extend to authorized employees of approved Canadian companies the privileges presently granted Canadian Aircraft Maintenance Engineers, authorize certain Canadians to perform 100-hour inspections, and clarify the provisions for approval of Canadian-performed mechanical work. Comments are due June 10.
Ordered inspection and either application of a corrosion preventive compound or replacement of the tail rotor drive shaft on certain Brantley helicopters, models B-2, B-2A, B-2B and 305, within ten hours in service of the March 9 effective date.
