1609 121st Street S.E.
Bellevue, Washington

Dear Captain Opsahl:

Thank you for your letter of inquiry.

We have made no progress so far in rescinding the age 60 rule of the FAA. This is not the kind of a battle that can be won overnight. It has laid on the shelf for too long a time to be so easily resolved.

However, all is not so gloomy as it seems. Public Law 90-202, the law that prohibits discrimination for age between 40 and 65, does hold some promise of immediate relief. The FAA permits you to continue in the employ of your company after age 60, as a test pilot, check pilot, flight instructor, ferry pilot, experimental pilot, etc. It permits you to fly in any other capacity except as a line pilot. Enclosed is a copy of the pertinent paragraphs in 90-202, so you better understand your rights under the law.

Should you seek relief under Public Law 90-202, please advise me as to your progress or in what way we can help you.

Your MEC has passed a resolution in support of our efforts so they should also be of assistance to you.

With the best of wishes for your success, I am

Sincerely,

Captain Michael Gitt
