Dear Herb:

Thanks for your letter and all the other goodies. I enjoyed the Co-pilot and Captain poems, the Captain cartoon. I'll put the 1946 Colonial Airline sonority list along with the other Colonial memorabilia in the REPA archives.

As for the TWA matter, there is no doubt that someone at Eastern goofed up. Pan American apparently was contacted first and immediately sent the list of their retirees to TWA. EARA had drafted a letter for Shugrue's signature in early 1994, to all the major domestic carriers asking for reduced fare privileges for EAL retirees. The best we can learn from Eastern is they received a request in late December or early January for the EAL list. At that time EARA representatives met with Shugrue and his EAL attorney, John Sicilian (who is now the "Liquidating Agent") and asked that they expedite the list to TWA. After several checks with TWA to see if they had received the list, and getting a negative answer, there were additional meetings with Shugrue and Sicilian, and they promised to expediate, starting that they were trying to get it updated to include all retirees and their addresses who had retired after EAL stopped operation. They should have sent the list that they had and added the new retirees later.

Anyway, TWA was sent the complete list in the late March, and according to the best information we have, they are in the process of mailing letters to more than 14,000 official EAL retirees explaining the procedure for obtaining than 90% coach discount (2 a year), and the 75% coach discount (unlimited per year). It will be through a third party, somewhat like a travel agent. If we don't receive the TWA letter in a few days, EARA will follow up with TWA. EARA will also work on negotiating the 50% positive space. Hope it works out.

On the personal side, Iam having multiple health problems- you name it and I've got it- so I don't think. I'll be able to make the 1995 REPA convention Sorry, because it should be a good one. Thanks for your king words..

Best Regards,
Art Furchgott
