Marv Brandt

Marv was born in Jamestown, MI, but his father's business moved the family to Bethlehem, PA when he was a teen. While in high school Marv set the state quarter-mile track record, but more importantly he met a 16 year old young lady who was to become his wife for 58 years.

Marv attended Lehigh University where he majored in Industrial Engineering. He left Lehigh for Pensacola, FL where he graduated from Naval Flight School. Following his Navy duty he joined Eastern and was based in New York and Miami. There he flew Air Transport Command to Belem, Brazil. Later he was transported back to New York where he was based for the rest of his career until his retirement in 1976.

Living in the big land era, Marv and Gerry enjoyed the music and getting out to dances. While he was at Lehigh he played the guitar as part of a six-piece band. He and Gerry enjoyed the "oldies."

Flying was more than just a profession to Marv, it was also a favorite pastime. He owned a Swift and several Cessnas over the years. He taught both sons to fly by the time they were 16. He also gave a first ride to an especially close cousin, Jack Lousma, who went on from that experience to becoming an astronaut and Space Shuttle pilot.

Marv was also an avid reader, and especially liked Civil War stores. He enjoyed frequent fishing and camping trips to the Northeast and Canada, often with his sons and father.

He is survived by his wife, Gerry, 2 sons, 6 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren.
