Who would believe that I would fall over backwards and break my back! I fractured a vertebra. It just goes to show that one should never try to put on his underwear both legs at the same time - or at least one should sit on the side of the bed when doing so. One thing about suffering the associated pain, it is sort of like hitting yourself in the head with a baseball bat. It feels so good then you quit. The pain has subsided, thanks to a $1,500 brace - thank goodness for Medicare and Monumental Insurance Company who supplies the Medicare supplement. Approaching age 79, it is also apparent that one should step carefully, hold on to the banister when negotiating steps and at all times watch where you step. Each year I am more and more thankful for my good health, my many blessings my association with all you wonderful REPANS. God Bless You.

Yours sincerely, Bill

This has been a difficult year for us, since Veronica was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease. She is still able to teach piano, and play the Sunday service at church. The medication seems to keep most of the symptoms at a minimum. This kept us from joining you at the convention, and of course, we won't know what this coming year will bring, but we continue from one day to the next.

In reading over this letter, my wife said you've said a lot about me, but not much about yourself, so I'll add a bit more about me. I'm still teaching singing, singing cantor in church each Sunday, acting as a computer consultant to about seven individuals, teaching a course in "Excel" at the PC User Group, and doing house work and cooking for the two of us. I did have a flight in a Cessna 172 with my youngest son, and found out I can still land and takeoff pretty well. It was fun so I have another hour on my logbook. My oldest son, Kevin, was recently made President of Cooke Airlines in Bloomington, Indiana, and seems to enjoy all the additional responsibilities.

Thanks to all the fellows who work for REPA; it means so much to so many of us "older pilots."

My best wishes, Paul

After reading from cover to cover my winter '98 REPArtee, I though I would share my lastest adventure.

The past year my son-in-law, Mark Freed, was able to get permission for me to along on a Trident Nuclear Submarine maneuver. The USS KENTUCKY SSBN-737 SUBMARINE, of which he is a crewman, submerged and traveled about two hundred miles east of Jacksonville, Fl. The submarine went through several maneuvers including an emergency dive, which was quite interesting. Later in the cruise we
