• Responsibility: "The Association must continue to enhance its reputation as a responsible spokesman for the air line piloting profession"

• Stability: "An effective institution must have continuity and stability in its functions. Sporadic participation in projects or activities does not make for progress. The Association must exist as a stable, consistent and responsible institution capable of sustained effort in behalf of the profession."

• Intra-Association Problems: "The solution of internal problems within the framework of ALPA procedures strengthens the ability of the organization to represent the entire membership and advance the common good."

• Professional Respect: "It is important in the policy-making work of ALPA, every possible step be taken to insist that membership of this profession maintain the highest respect for it.

Secretary's Report

The Secretary, F.A. Spencer, reported:

"Active membership shows a steady growth since the last Convention. In number it rose from about 8,000 to a present total of 9,500, increase of 1,500 active members. The size of the Board of Directors has continued to increase. We have six more pilots (on the Board of Directors) than at the last Convention and there are on file several requests for additional Councils which would further increase the number is such requests are granted."
