Doverite Gets Pilot's Rating

BASKING RIDGE-Students of Morris Junior College and Newark College of Engineering are completing initial aviation pilot training courses at Somerset Hills Airport here under sponsorship of Civil Aeronautics Authority - financed programs designed to increase the reserve of private pilots.  Scheduled to begin this week is the summer program offered the Newark College under which 35 graduates and undergraduates will be trained.

According to George A. Viehmann, airport operator, eight of the engineering students have already received private pilot ratings under the winter program.  A total of 10 Newark college students still have to complete final stages of the instruction before being eligible for licenses which will permit them to carry passengers for other than commercial purposes.

Among the Newark engineering students to receive a pilot's rating after completing the course at Somerset Hills is Lowell Russell Shaw of 14 Second street, Dover.

Morris Junior College Students training at Basking Ridge at the present time are Walter D'Andrea and William Nansen of Bernardsville and Felix Alexander Geissert Jr., of Dover.  All have passed the solo stage and are soon to be ready for final flight examinations.  Another Junior College student who has taken instruction under the government program is Robert H. McLeod of 21 Academy road, Morris Plains.
