Mr. Al Freund, Supt.
Homestead Garden Apartments
149 Street & Bayside Avenue
Flushing, New York

October 19. 1948.

Dear Mr. Freund,

On July 26, 1948 I wrote you a letter with regard to a written statement on the back of my July rent receipt. I have not as yet received an answer to this letter. For the months of August and September no rent receipts were forthcoming. Now again in October I receive another rent receipt, the first since July. Again this rent receipt has a written notation atbthe bottom:

" Final charges for garage rental (No O.P.A.Control)."

I don't understand it. In the first place, Congress failed to extend the Office of Price Administration (O. P. A.) beyond June 30, 1946. With regard to the " final charges " for garage rental, all I can say is to quote from my unanswered l letter of July 26, 1948:

" Please be advised that I fail to understand the meaning of this statement. If it is intended to be an eviction notice, I find that it is not legal or proper, therefore I am only more confused as to the intent and purpose of my aforementioned statement

Furthermore I wish to take this opportunity to ask you not to do anything drastic. If anything is done to barr me from further enjoying the rights and priveledges of my tenancy of the apartment and garage at Homestead Garden Apartments, then you will leave me no alternative but to protect myself to the fullest extent of the law."

I have nothing further to add. With Kind regards,
I am,

Sincerely yours,

Michael A. Gitt
