Messrs. Jerry and Arthur Wender -2- April 22, 1953

(4) Because of again raising the building with jacks, the stairway walls to the cellar were fractured. This should be rectified.

First Floor

(5) Because of the floor beams not being of the same size and not properly shimmed before the first flooring was laid and subsequently the finished floor, the existing flooring is very much like the ripples coming in on a wave from the ocean. These floor beams should be properly shimmed because of their unevenness and with proper bridging at proper locations. If this is done it will no doubt level out the floor.

(6) The half-inch round molding is missing in the kitchen around the sub-base. This should be installed.

(7) In the dining and living room private hall and master bedroom, because of jacking up the building and putting the two by four braced in the crawl space, has resulted in the walls being entirely pulled away from the flooring. The sub-bases should be removed and relocated. The fireplace in the living room has been entirely pulled away. This should be reset. The half-inch round molding in the master bedroom is again missing around the sub-base.

(8) All of the picture windows are bowed and some were not installed level. This is very noticeable both inside and outside of the building. I do not know what can be done about it, but I believe you should handle this to the best of your ability.

The Bathroom

(9) Because of raising the building again, these walls are all cracked and pulling away from the floor. The door is out of level and cannot be closed. There is an inadequate supply of hot water in the master bathroom. this may be caused by not installing a missing valve, but there is supposed to be a thermostatic valve in the bathroom, something which I have never heard of. The complaint is, no hot water. Also, in the bathroom the toilet bowl is sluggish. There is something in it because it drains off very slowly.

Second Floor

(10) The windows on the second floor apparently have no flashing because daylight can be seen all around them, particularly on the bottoms where the flashing should be and properly caulked on the vertical. The chimney breast should be caulked, because there again daylight can be seen from the inside.

(11) I have no way of checking it, but Mr. Gitt claims he purchased a complete insulated job, such as insulated sidewalls, and I only bring this matter up because the master bedroom window which is of southwestern exposure and should be warm is six degrees colder than the living room on the northeastern end. This may be caused by improperly flashed windows and also improper caulking, because the drafts coming in those windows is terrific.
