Genl I am aware of your pressure of business I dont intend to occupy your time anymore than I can help but I want to give you my history I was born in the town of Bristol New York in the year 1810 both of my Grand Fathers was Revolutionary Soldiers my Father five Brothers and six brother in laws was in the war of 1812 and 13 I came to this country in 1855 in the Murrell excitement, in 34 I went to Nashville and made machinery for a large Rolling Mill that stood where the lumber yard is on Colledge hill I done business for AW [[?]] of the owners of the mill and builder of the Kirkman house near the capitol, In 39 I went to South Carolina and built Iron Works and when the Mexican War broke out I was Colonel of the 37th Regt South Carolina [[?]] I took a company out of the Regt and met Genl Scott at [[?]] when the Rebellion broke out it found me here an uncompromising Union Man I have done all I could for the Federal Government I have been in its Employ since the fall of Fort Davidson I have ran a great many risks as a spy and guide I held the Elections for the amendment of the Constitution Governor members of the Legislature & I was appointed Post Master of this place then the Governor appointed me Magistrate then you sent me the appointment as Agent of the Freedmens Bureau I called and saw you in your office I have faithfully and honestly carried out your instructions I not either done too mutch
