Respectfully returned t Bvt. Brig. Genl. T. Duncan - Comdg Dist of Nashville with the following report, - Upon the receipt of your communication of the 21st inst, (which was received by me on the evening of the 23d) I sent a Detch of a Segt and five men on the 24 Inst with orders to report to Capt. J.M. Tracy, V.R.C. at Clarksville, for instructions, also sent an extract of your endorsement of the 21" inst requesting him to perform the duties assigned to me, and to report the same to me upon the capture of Black, - The Detch returned on the evening of the 27 inst and the Sergt reported that on their arrival at Clarksville Black had given himself up to the Civil Authorities. I received no report from Capt Tracy, nor from Capt McClellen who I have been informed, relieved Capt Tracy.
