Mr Burt to expend $400.00 on the building at that place. I wrote Mr Terrell to have the work put through, and building completed, and assured him that the money would be paid thereafter.

Dandridge.- Mr Burt had previously authorized Judge Swan to expend $400.00 on the building at that place and I simply wrote to the effect that Mr. Burts action in the matter had been approved and appropriation would be paid as soon as the house could be completed. The colored people have appointed the 2nd Monday in July to get out the framing timbers for their building at this place. all the timber they will need has been given them by Judge Swan; and Col Fain gave them the lot to build on; and they are sure of having a large and commodious house, at no great cost to themselves except their labor.

Loudon.- I failed at this place completely for two reasons. one was that the colored people were not able to pay for a lot, and the other was that a title could not be had to any lot they might have been able to purchase; but they have some hopes of succeeding in buying a lot some time this coming fall, and asked that the appropriation of $250.00 be held till the 1st of Sept. as they hope by that time to accomplish something. Mr. Harrison the Post Master has consented to assist them all he can as counselor and Agent.
