I authorized Wm McSwin to act as Agent for the colored people, and see that the money was properly expended, which he agreed to do, and promised to furnish all necessary material, and advance some money to the carpenter if he could be assured of the payment of the appropriation when the work was completed; I assured him that the money would be paid as soon as the work was completed, the necessary vouchers made out &c.

Cleveland - I did not stop at this place as I saw Capt. Ware the Agent of the Bureau, at Knoxville, and authorized him to Superinted to erection of the building, he residing at that Place can give the matter his personal attention, and says the house can be completed by the 1st of Sept, which I have no doubt can be done.

Harrison. - This was the last place I visited. The freedmen have been more industrious, and manifested more interest at this place than at any other point I visited except Kingston, they have all their framing timbers out, and  A.G.W. Pucket Esqr. has agreed to endorse for them in the purchase of the lumber necessary to complete their house, and will make the contract with a carpenter for putting up the building and superintend the work while it is being done. Mr Pucket has been the prime mover in this matter and he and a relative of his donated the lot on which they are to build, and gave the timber which has been hewn out by the freedmen for the frame; there can
