In compliance with your communication of the 10th inst = directing information to be furnished as to whether any great destitution exists in East Tenn. Such as may produce great suffering - with an estimate of such persons, and stating that you have been authorized to purchase Corn and bacon to supply such destitute persons and asking whether such provisions can be purchased at Knoxville. I have the honor respectfully to report that I am not aware and do not believe - that any very great destitution exists in East Tenn.
I am of the opinion that five hundred (500) persons - two hundred (200) adults and three hundred (300) children - will cover all cases of really destitute persons. which can be reached by the Govmn't.
Two hundred (200) of these could probably be reached
