were building a hewed log school house and that they would soon have it - completed also that I had promised to pay for the lumber window sash and so on I did tell him longly that if the coloured people would build a log school house immediately that I would pay for the lumber window & so on I also told him that I thought the beaurea would send them a teacher but before leaving Saulsberry I received word to return to Nashville consequently I could not return to Brownsville to fulfill the above promise. I will therefore respectfully refer you to Bvt. Maj. General W.P. Carlin[[strikethrough]] g [[/strikethrough]] Assistant Commissioner Bu. R. F. & A L Nashville Tenn. for all further information or aid, you may require who I think will grant anny reasonable request you may have occasion to make in regard to the schoolhouse & so on

Dear sir the building was erected as per agreement by the co. people but they are not able to pay for lumber and sash & so on and they are yet expecting aid it will be a great disapointment to them if they do not get the promised help if it was obtained they would have a school soon I would say as a friend to justice and humanity if the promice can be fulfilled let it be done as it is a case of need if you can anny thing I would recommend that you send the money or communicate with W.H.
