Alfred Branden Supt Lincoln Co reports Oct 31" "Everything is moveing on well in the county with the exception of some disagreements growing out of contracts with freed persons that was not written down.

I do assure you that it is a matter or great importance to the freedpeople to have all contracts reduced to writing and registered, in fact it is the only way in which they will succeed"

Joshua Cobb Supt Montgomery Co. reports Oct 31 "State of feeling on the part of citizens toward freedmen and the Bureau as favorable as could be expected. under all the circumstances; I am apprehensive of some trouble and suffering among a portion of our colored population who have existing contracts with unresponsible white persons, and with another class of the colored population who are seemingly irrevocably improvident"
