From what information I can obtain the freedmen that entered into contracts this year will male enough to support them the next year, but will I fear, find it hard to enter contracts for another year.

Rev'd Rich'd Simpson. Supt White Co reports "The freedmen in White county are tolerable quiet. I hear of no disturbance in any way, no outrages are being perpetrated and the employers are generally settling up with the freedmen in peace and quiet.

I must however be permitted to state to your honor that I am of opinion that there will be some suffering among some poor families who have no fathers to support them and are entirely dependent on a mothers exertions, and when those families are large some I fear will suffer from the inclemency of the coming winter for the necessary supplies of clothing, shoes, and subsistance."

J.H. Gregory. Supt for Maury Co reports Dec 10": "There has been a great many complaints made at this office by freedmen, who have been under contracts for this year, that their employers are endeavoring to swin[[dle]]
