I have this month opened a school in this place for the education of Freedmen under the charge of Mr. O. T. Andrews, late of Illinois as teacher. The school now numbers Eighty Scholars; there would be more if the house was large enough to hold them. There are a good many school Teachers needed in this District, but the great trouble is the colored People are not able to pay them for their services. Many of the white people are anxious that district schools for the education of the colored people, should open, but the colored people are neither able to build School Houses, nor pay Teachers".

During the month the Freedmens schools in this city have been opened, = under the Superintendency of Mr. E. O. Tade, = in the buildings recently repaired by the Bureau for that purpose, The number of scholars in attendance is smaller than was expected being in the aggregate last month 150. only, It is Confidently expected that the number will be doubled at least, during the month of December
