disposed to be saving and hoard up a little for the future. This applies particularly to those Freedmen who would not or did not have their contracts approved and supervised by the agent of the Bureau. I am sorry to see that after all our exertions the several County Courts, are as yet so negligent as not to provide a place of shelter or any other means of support for any of the poor and destitute of their respective counties. This applies more particularly to Davidson County and the City of Nashville and I would respectfully ask that something may be done, and that immediately for the relief of the following classes and that an hospital or place of refuge may be established for the following in the City.

1st The Blind - There are five or six blind Freedmen in the city for whom no adequate provision is made.

2nd There are as many as ten cripples - Two who have lost both legs. One who has lost a leg and an arm, and Five who have lost a leg. All of whom are dependent upon charity for support.

3rd There are also in the city from fifteen to twenty aged and crippled men and women
