in, as the lawyers will get not alone this means, if they even had, or have any, but also that of their friends.  

By and by their friends will prefer them at a distance or some other state, than to have them for neighbors.

The industry, sobriety, and thrift of the freedmen is remarkable, and will bear striking comparison with the poorer class of whites in the rural districts.

There is a great falling off in the making and registering of contracts this year from last, and which I am afraid will work injuriously for the freedmen at the [[?]] of the year.
 
I have the honor further to report that they were issued to destitute Refugees and Freedmen in this Sub District (2600) Twenty six hundred rations during the month of February 1867. and I consider that less will be required in the coming months.
