Agents of Sommerville, Purdy, or Durhamville. At La Grange, 238 rations and at Memphis 129 rations were issued to destitute freedpeople. 532 rations were issued to the Memphis Colored Orphan Asylum. I also issued to that institution thirty one pair shoes. 

There are in this District fifteen colored schools conducted by thirty-two teachers. The number of scholars in attendance 2402. Eleven minors have been reported as apprenticed by the Civil Authorities during the past month. 

Jesse A. Brown, Agent for Henry Co., reports that the Bureau can not accomplish anything in his County. The white people tell the colored people that they will not employ them if they have to go to the Agent to have their contracts approved. Four minors have been apprenticed by the County Court. No contracts been approved by the Agent.

John D Ussery, Agent for Hardiman County has approved 35 contracts embracing the names of 183 laborers. He states that "everything is going on quietly - the freedpeople are generally entering into written contracts. Some few of last years contracts have not yet been settled. There seems to be a pretty good feeling existing between the freedpeople and their former masters. The planters are making
