G.E. Green, Agent for Madison County, has approved 25 contracts embracing 89 laborers. Mr. Green states that he has settled during the past month several cases between the freedpeople and their last years employers and has succeeded in recovering pay for hem for the services rendered. 
In Shelby County Tenn. I have issued 129 rations to destitute freedpeople and 532 to the Colored Orpham Asylum. There is very little suffering amongst the colored people reported. A large number of colored persons have left the city and gone to the county. There are in my opinion two or three thousand colored people less in the city at the present time than there were one year ago. 
Sixteen contracts have been approved at this office embracing 20 laborers. Thirteen colored schools are in successful operation in the city; of these five are free schools and eight charge a tuition fee. Thirty-one teachers
