school is building up a good name for itself and is gradually the prejudice that some of the citizens have against the education of the colored people. Several plantation schools are being started in this County. The planters finding that they cannot hold out any inducement for the colored people to labor for them half as great as to start a school and give the laborers an opportunity to educate their little ones.

There will be much more land outlawed in this County the coming year than there was last. A large number of freedpeople having been brought into the County from North and South Carolina, Georgia and Alabama. A large proportion of the freepeople are at work for an interest in the crops. They have gone to work this season, much better than last. But few outrages are being committed against them, and these few are of but a trifling character. The Civil Authorities with but few exceptions are dealing justly with the freepeople. It is, however, still very hard w work for the freepeople t o. obtain their rights under the law in the small justice Courts back in the County districts.
