of the Bureau in this County and reports that the colored people have gone to work generally, this year, much better than last. He could not hear of a single vagrant amongst them, nor of any extreme cases of destitution. About the same amount of land will be planted this year that was cultivated last. No information could be obtained of any outrage having been committed upon the blacks by the whites. The whites and colored people both represent that Mr. Ussery the Agent has endeavored to create a healthy feeling between the laborers and their employees, and appearance seems to prove that he has been very successful. The freedmen speak well of the workings of the Civil Courts and have great confidence in the judgement of Esquire Bills, a Magistrate at Bolivar Tenn. Mr. Ussery the Agent has during the past month approved 21 contracts embracing 92 laborers. The freedmen report that Mr. Ussery has settle a large number of cases for them, growing out of claims for last years services.

The Building being erected by the Rev. Mr. Grey for a church and school house for the colored people will soon be completed, and school opened therein
