I have the honor to make the following report of the operations of the Bureau in the Nashville Sub District during the month of April 1867.

Joel B. Smith, Agent for the counties of Bedford, Coffee and Franklin Tenn with Head Quarters at Tullahoma reports as follows.

During the month I have visited the several counties comprising this District and made careful investigations of affairs following to my duties as Agent.

The freedmen in each county have been found industriously and profitably at work. There is little or no vagrancy observed, some of them have purchased lands, numbers have rented land, and are farming on their own responsibility, a good many are working for a share in the
