I have the honor to submit the following report of the condition of the affairs of the Bureau in this Sub-District for the month of April 1867.

Alvin Allen Esq. in charge of the Counties of Henderson, Madison and Decatur reports that the condition of the freed people in these Counties are much improved compared with last year. That many of the citizens who at that time were opposed to the education of the colored people are now becoming in favor of it. The School at Jackson, conducted under the auspices of M.E. Church South, is progressing finely. There has been a gain of twenty new scholars during the past month. The present report of the school is as follows. No. Teachers 1, No. male scholars 14, No. female scholars 32, Total 46. No. over 16 years of age 5, Average attendance 42. No. in alphabet 15, No.
