that schools will be started at a great many places in his district during the coming season. 

On the 13th day of May a party of lawless men broke up a Republican Convention at Brownsville, a full report of which I forwarded you on the 17th following. Warrants were issued and 18 of the rioters were bound over to the present term of the Circuit Court. The Grand Jury had the cases before them for investigation and found two bills against six of the party, to wit: Hugh Clark, Tom Gale, B.F. Wallace, Tom Grant, Mike McGrath and Turner Winfield. They have given bonds for their appearance when called for trial. The general opinion appears to be that none of these parties will be convicted by any jury that can be obtained in that County. The Grand Jury also found two bills against eleven freedmen for being engaged in the riot. The prospect are that these colored men who were acting in a great measure on the defensive will be found guilty and their assailants turned loose. 

The number of schools in Mr. Postons District is two. No. Teachers 2. No. scholars 75. No. over 16 years of age seven.
