village called Friendship, in Dyer County and are generally believed to number about thirty men when altogether. In every other part of the County things are moving on about as usual.'

There are no schools in Mr. Blakemore's district but he reports that several will start this fall.

I have referred Mr. Postons statement to Mr. Blakemore for investigation and report as to its correctness.

Fielding Hurst, Esq. in charge of Counties of McNairy and Hardin, reports that the freedmen are generally at work, with the prospect, if the season is favorable of making a good crop. There are a good many very poor people in his district which will require some assistance during the next month or two. The 4000 rations shipped Mr. Hurst May 18th had not at last accounts reached him. He has, however, issued [[strikethrough]] during the [[/strikethrough]] during the month of May the 450 rations to destitute Refugees & Freedmen which had been forwarded him April 22d. There are no schools in Mr Hursts district, but the freedpeople have raised $200 by subscription & Mr. Hurst has given them a Lot in Purdy, McNairy County, and they will make an effort to start a school there this fall.
