the plantation of Lowing and Posten near Paris. Henry Co, April 27" 1867, four have been brought to trial, of whom three were acquitted and one sent to the penitentiary for ten years. Three others of the party are still in jail, their cases having been continued until next term of comt. 

In Shelly County the colored people are making rapid advancement. Their condition is much better than in any other county in this Sub-Dist. The colored Schools are flourishing and the utmost freedom of speech in political decisions is being tolerated by all parties. During the last month the colored people have had several pic-nice and political meetings in various parts of the county, and no interference has been offered in any way. 

The No. of Schools in the county is 18, No. Teachers 37, No. Scholars 2227. No. Sabbath schools 14. No. S.S. Scholars 1795. 

The city and county authorities continue to extend aid to the paupers, irrespective of color. The following report from the City Hospital will sport the number of colored patients in that institution during the month of May.
