I intend to urge the organization of a "Lincoln Temperance Society" among the Freedmen in this Sub dist. so soon as the press of harvest work is over and an opportunity offers.

There is no trouble in my counties of any consequence. The people are getting along well. The negroes are working well and the majority of them are living up to their contracts. The respectable farmers are having no trouble with them and are very helpful. The prospect is good for a fine crop. Political excitement runs very high but I think there is no danger of trouble. The negroes are acting very prudently in the matter. I think here is no general effort to intimidate them or to prevent them from exercising their privileges as enfranchised citizens, although there are some who will
