appears to be least interested and the hardest to get to set an example. We have to contend not alone against the indifference of these but also against those who have an interest in the vending of intoxicating liquors. However with continued exertion I truest there will be an improvement next month.

The destitution in the Sub Dist is visibly decreasing and only 264 rations were issued last month.  I am afraid that the political agitation now going on in this state is going to do at least for the present a great deal of injury to the Freedmen.

It is unsettling their minds and the bitter and ill disposed of the contending parties are taking advantage of it to turn off their plantations and defraud them of their wages, those who do not do and act exactly as they desire.

The schools in the Nashville Sub Dist closed on June 15th and there are no remarks to be made in reference to them of movement
