K.C. Sample, Agent for the counties of DeKalb, Smith and Wilson, Tenn, makes the following report.

During the month of July, I visited the following towns in his Sub District. Alexandria Liberty Smithville, Middleton and Carthage.

At Smithville the County seat of DeKalb Co, I found nothing of interest. At Liberty I spent a short time in making inquiries found the freedmen more numerous than in the latter place, and in a prospering condition generally.

At Carthage I met a crowd of the freedmen, talked to them on their duties to their fellow citizens, white and col'd found them disposed to do right as far as their knowledge of right extends.
