at Cumberland Furnace, taught by Rev H.H. Duncan, he has about One hundred Scholars on his record The col'd people themselves built the school house without any assistance from any one, and I am told it is the best school house in the county of Dixon. Though the col'd people at work at the Furnace have all they can do to support their families, yet they contribute all they can toward compensating their teacher for his work. If there are any funds that can be expended toward the support of a teacher I know of no one more deserving than Mr Duncan.

There have been two cases of outrages committed in this Co during the last month upon the freedmen, both of these have been thrown into the civil law.

J.B. Pound Agent for Davidson Co Tenn thus writes.

I have the honor to report no outrages as having been committed upon the freemen of this county during the month of August.
