radical, and declare they will run them all out. The col'd barber of this place is ruined. Before he voted he had a splendid custom, now none but radicals will patronize him.

Their object now is to intimidate the union man, for this purpose they have organized a secret society known as the Ruklux Klan. This society is very numerous and seems to extend all over the country. They marched about the streets at night thoroughly disguised and in uniform. Orders are given to them by private signals which seem to be well understood by all the society. I am creditably informed that they are heavily armed. their arms cannot be seen for their cloak hides everything. I am sure they are capable of great mischief if they undertake it. Threats are continually made which keep the negroes up in arms all the time. It is impossible for me to say what will be the end of it all.

The best citizens here declare that no harm shall come to any one and that the Leagues shall not be interfered with. They
