the burning of the col'd school house at Pleasant Grove, Wilson Co Tenn. Aug 23d 1867 does not speak well for the interest some of them take in the education of the col'd race. 

The crops in the Sub Dist have never been better than during the last year. old citizens say no crop equal in value has been raised in ten years.

The demand for labor has more than counterbalanced the supply, and the practicability of free labor has been demonstrated in the most satisfactory manner.
