6 H H Owen, Agent for Overton Co. states that nothing of any importance or calling for special attention has transpired in his district - everything has passed off exceedingly quiet. The Case of Jack Hardy Cold against Mr. George Overstreet mentioned in last report for threatening violence was amicably arranged, Mr. Overstreet having denied any intention of personal violence, and the Col'd man withdrawing the warrant. John Enoch Agent for the Counties of Humphreys Hickman, Lewis and Perry writes There has been no outrages committed during the month. Have advised the freedman where money is due them for labor to sue for it. there has been five suits before Justices of the Peace, obtaining equitable settlements excepting one case which was carried to the Circuit Court. The free school opened at the place is of great advantage to freedmen. there are 70 scholars in attendance. Many freedman by living in ill ventilated huts are getting sick & numbers have not money to pay Physicians & for want of medical attendance die. County Courts do not provide for them or even bury the dead. On the 29th inst I had to purchase coffins for 2 Col'd men and had them buried myself
