a white lady. A general good feeling existed between the white and colored people. In Henderson Co. there are no Colored schools and there is a very strong and determined of position manifested to the education of the Colored people.

In Decaturville the freedpeople had organized a school of twenty five scholars, but owing to the strong prejudice against such schools they had been unable to secure the services of a teacher.

In McNairy County, general good feeling exists between the races. There are some three day schools and three Sabbath schools are being taught and are well conducted by the Colored people. Mr. Hurst complains that he has much difficulty in obtaining teachers, for the reason that the freedmen are not qualified and the whites hesitate to engage in it.

Capt. Kendrick during the past month inspected the condition of affairs in Tipton County. He states: "There are many complaints made by freedmen that they contacted to work during the year for an intrest in the crop, the cotton to be divided at the Gin, but they were not allowed to control their share
