this City could be free schools the same as last year the number of scholars in the City would soon increase to over 2000, but, as it is, the number is only 700.

During the past month the Yellow fever has been epidemic in this City, and the number of deaths from it has been as reported by the Board of Health from Sept. 28th to Nov. 6th 192. It has ceased to be epidemic and has almost entirely disappeared from the City. But few colored persons have died from it, the mortality being confined almost exclusively to the white population.

The City and County authorities continue to assist the poor and needy irrespective of color.

Eighty four Bounties amounting to Nineteen thousand three hundred and twenty-eight dollars and seventy-eight cents ($19,328.78/100) have been paid to ex-colored soldiers during the past month.

The Memphis Branch of the Freedmen's Savings and Trust Company removed their establishment during the month from 343 Maui Street to 48 Beal St. and have now a respectable and convenient room, desk, etc. The deposits for September were $1601.34/100 and for October $7287.65/100, showing a gain of $5685.31/100.
