Dyer County Jan. 1st 1866.

Article of agreement, made and entered into this day, January 1st 1866, between D.L. Puckett of the first part & Jery & Caroline of the second, former slaves of D.L. Puckett, but now freed laborers  The said Jerry agrees to work with his former master D.L. Puckett for twelve months, commencing on the first of January 1866 and ending on the 1st of Jany 1867, to work faithful, obey all orders rules and customes as he has heretofore, furnishing his owen clothes, payes his owen Doctor Bills, and pays for all loss time from sickness, or any other cause, for which the said Puckett agrees to pay Jerry the sum of $125 in money, gives him his cotton patch, containing thirty rowes, the same patch he had last year, with the half of each Saturday to work it in, unless other business is pressing. Caroline agrees to work for her former Master & Mistress as she has alwas done, work in the House or out, as the nature of the case requires, furnishing her owen clothes, pays her Doctor Bills and all other expenses, except her board, for which D.L. Puckett pays her Seventy-five dollars for twelve Months, commencing on the first day of January 1866, and ending on the 1st of January 1867
