An agreement made and entered into (Jan. 1st 1866) between W, S, Byars of the one part and Daphney Smith a freed woman of the other; Witnesseth, that the said W.S. Byars agree to give the said Daphney Smith and her two children two hundred dollars on the first day of January eighteen hundred and  [[strikethrough]] fifty [[/strikethrough]] sixty seven; the said W S Byars also agrees to feed the said family for the year eighteen hundred and sixty six; and to be at no other expens. The said Daphney Smith binds her-self to be subject to the control of the said W,S, Byars and to cause her children to be the same, and to make good and faithful laborers. If the said W S Byars fails to comply with his part of the agreement or gives any just cause for dissatisfaction then this agreement is forfeited, and if the said Daphney Smith fails on her part to comply with her agreement, then the said W S Byars may dismiss her (the said Daphney Smith) and she shall forfeit her wages.
