The following Contract and agreement is this day made and entered into between James T. Pugh, of the first part, and Mary Osier, James H. Osier and Peggy Ann Osier, freed laborers, of the second part, all of the County and State aforesaid: The said James T. Pugh agrees to furnish the said freed laborers with houses, land, stock, feed and everything necessary to the production of a crop, besides clothing and medical attendance, for and during the year 1866, and after said crop shall be produced, gathered and put in a marketable condition, the said James T. Pugh agrees to give to the said freed laborers one-third thereof.  And the said freed laborers agree to work diligently and faithfully and conduct themselves properly and obey the said James T. Pugh in all matters relating to the farm and do general work around the house and yard whenever he may so Command it for and during the year 1866, and the said James T. Pugh agrees to protect them in the quiet enjoyment of their rights as freedmen while they remain with him.  This Contract is to remain in full force and entire, until the 31st day of December 1866. In testimony whereof we have hereunto set our hand and seals this the 1st day of January 1866.
