An Obligation entered into by TJ Robinson of Hardeman County Town & Mary & Family of Hardeman County Tenn Counseling of Mr. Hersell Louis Family & three others who are not old enough for service for the year 1866

Jan the 2nd 1866
Mary & Family having proposed & obliged themselves to me (TJ Robinson) to perform good & faithful service either at my house or any work that my be necessary on my Farm. also to be agreeable & peaceable with each other. I TJ Robinson agree & obligate myself to furnish them with good & substantial clothing consisting of two suits of summer & one or more of winter suits good & holesome provisions also to furnish & aply medicine when necessary as far as any knowledge of medicine extends & pay them the sum of two hundred dollars in the currency of the country. I also agree to permit the said Mary & Family leisure when the circumstances of the Farm will admit of it. The said Mary & Family will not be allowed to willfully violate & abuse any property. The above named two hundred dollars will be payed to them when the term of their services shall have closed the remainders will be furnished as needed
