Contract entered into between H. B. Wright on the one part and Byrd, Dan, Frank and families, Freedmen, of the second part.

I (H. B. Wright) do agree to rent to the said Freedmen the field lying in front of T. B. Lowe's house, for the year 1866. The said Freedmen agree to pay H. B. Wright one third (1/3) of every thing raised on said land, they furnishing their own provisions, stock, farming utensils & every thing necessary for raising a crop. I, H. B. Wright, agree to furnish nothing. The said Freedmen agree to keep open all hillside ditches and to cultivate the land as I (H.B. Wright) direct. The said Freedmen agree to make, keep up and leave at the end of the year 1866 a good fence. The said Freedmen agree to use just such wood as I (H. B. Wright) direct, to hire no one nor hire to any one without my consent, and to permit no one either white or black to lounge around them. The said Freedmen agree to help the said H. B. Wright in building a gin and press whenever called for, till the work is completed. I (H. B. Wright) agree to gin all cotton the said Freedmen may raise, free of charge, they assisting me to gin and bale all I may have to gin. The said Freedmen agree to help harvest and thresh Mrs. Dickenson's wheat crop. Each family has permission to keep ten hogs on said land and must keep said hogs out of mischief. The said Freedmen agree to gather no corn without the consent of H. B. Wright. The said Frank (Freedmen) is to furnish Kettie to assist Mrs. Dickenson in the house, failure on the
