Agreement made and entered into on this 4th of January 1866 between Rachel Catran aged 65 yrs her children Liddy Catran aged 40 yrs Isom Catran aged 17 yrs and two infant children aged 6 and 5 yrs. Isom and two smaller children contracting by their mother and grandmother Rachel Catran and Liddy Catran. all freedman of the first part and J.B. Scarborough of the second part.  Witnesseth the said parties of the first part doth agree in the capacity above stated to move upon the place of the said J B Scarborough and live their the entire year of 1866, and work as laborers and farm hand and to be at their work at sunrise and work until sunset under the directions and control of the said J B Scarborough and to perform good and faithful and diligent work during the time agreed upon by them.  They are to take good care of the mules and stock of all kinds on the place and to do all the necessary work in repairing plantation and getting firewood at intervals as may be required of them and to perform all such work with fidelity and industry and at all times treating and acting politely towards the said J B Scarborough and family by obeying his orders and commands.  The said laborers to loose the time they are sick and unable to work in consideration for which the said J.B. Scarborough agrees to pay the said Rachel, Liddy and Isom. Rachel forty dollars
