Hardeman County Tenn Jany 1866
Know all men by these presence that I L.C. Moore, of the county and State afforsaid do agree to Employ Willis Chapman and his wife Jane, Free persons of color for the year 1866.  I bind myself to furnish said persons to quarters rations and every day clothing and give them out of my crop of the present year one bale cotton to weigh 500 pounds or the proceeds of the same. Any moneys that I may pay or advance them shall be deducted out of said cotton. They are to work under my directions and that of my agent an to obey my orders and use industry in carying them out. &c 
I Willis Chapman do agree to work for L.C. Moore for the year 1866. On the above terms and bind myself to strictly comply with its requirements in testimony of the above we sign or cause our signatures to be made under the day and date above written.
