Articles of Contract and agreement for the year 1866 Between J.W. Newbern of the first part and Anthony Cornelia Elizabeth President Cresa Kitty Caroline George Newburn Jacob Evaline Hardy & Isaac Bowers
of the second part the said GW Newbern agrees to furnish said parties of the second part with a sufficiency of land to cultivate on his farm in corn and cotton also to furnish them with team gear and all necessary tools to cultivate a crop with waggons and teams for the use of said farm houses and fuel for the use of the said hands and give them one half of the crop also to furnish them with fuel and provisions at the customary prices of the neighborhood and retain a lien on said crop until all expenses are paid. Said hands to work under the supervision and directions of the said G W Newbern or his agent said parties of the second part agree on their part to keep said farm in good repair do all necessary halling, milling, cutting & halling of wood rails & halling to and from the Rail Rode and to take care and feed all the stock on said farm find themselves are to be at no expense to the said Newbern for clothing Medical Bills medicines or any thing els [[else]] the said Newbern to see that they have medical aid when necessary all adults that remain on said farm and does not make regular hands in the crop shal pay a tax of two dollars per month for the use of houses & fire wood said hands are to be orderly and respectful to the said Newbern his family or agent no swearing or indecorous language to be used in his presence or in the presance of his family or agent all differences that may arise amongst said hands are to be first refered to the said Newbern for adjustment and if not amicably adjusted then to some Justice of the peace or the county agent of the Bureau of freedman all tools carelessly broken or lost to be paid for at
