Articles of agreement made and entered into between R.H. Kirkland of the State of Tennessee Hardeman County of the one part and Sam Bills of the other part Witnesseth that the said Kirkland agrees to furnish the said Sam with land and tools & team to cultivate a crop for the year 1866 the said Kirkland to find provisions for the said Sam and to give him one third of the cotton which he may raise. Sam on his part agrees to make a good hand to yield Strict and cheerful obedience to all orders given him to take good care of the stock to make up all lost time to pay his own Dr's bill furnish his own clothing to treat the family with due respect not using any impudence not leave without permission to attend to the feeding and watering of the stock on the Sabath and do any work that is required of him on the Plantation
