rise duly in time to feed the stock on the  place or if more hands there be, his share, breakfast & be ready to start work at one half hour by the morning sun, to be cheerful & industrious polite & gentlemanly, protecting the interest of his employer by giving information of & striving to prevent any wrong doing on the farm nor to have assemblages of any persons whatever not living on the place without consent of said Polk - to obey all instructions given by said Polk or his proper agent or Superintendent; to do any legitimate labor on the farm for its preservation & the mutual comfort & cleanliness of the hands on the farm & all parts of the farm  - to give the said Joy & children, one third part of all the crop he & they can make on the land allowed - the cotton to be sold & the net proceeds divided as above, all other crop to paid said Joy in kind to be at his absolute control management & disposal.
