State of Tennessee Hardeman County
This agreement made and entered into this 6th day of December A.D. 1865 between Jonathan Joyner of the village of Pocahontas in said County and Lenah Janes a woman of color and her children Viz Laura Ann, Melvin, Sam, Jackson, Fayette William, Joe Charley & Indiana.  Witness that the said Joyner is to furnish the necessary amount of Land to cultivate a crop of Cotton and Corn upon for the year 1866 also stock to plow the ground for & all necessary plows plow gear &c. also to furnish said Lenar Janes and her said children with provisions for their support until the 25th December 1866 and he the said J. Joyner & son Thomas is to work in the raising said crop of cotton and Corn and said Joyner is to superintend the cultivation and gathering the crop and when the crop shall be gathered the said Lenah Janes & children aforesaid shall receive One twelfth part thereof or its value; and they are to assist faithfully in the cultivation and gathering the crop and to find their own clothing pay Doctor bills if any; but said Joyner is to be at all other expense of raising and gathering said crop and be entitled to all of said crop except the 1/12 agreed upon as above.
